 Bishop's letter for pastoral Planning
INTRODUCTION TO ASSESSMENT TOOLS
The Bismarck Diocese Mission Statement, "To Be Ambassadors for Christ, Who Live Stewardship in Word, Sacrament and Service," is derived from Scripture, restated by our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, and taught in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. All are called to ministry through the sacraments of Baptism Eucharist and Confirmation. The Christian Faithful, lay and clerical alike, are called to unite in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
For most Catholics the parish is where they experience Church. Ministry within the parish is the ordinary way in which members of the Christian faithful hear and are formed by the Word, experience the Sacraments and are sent to Serve. We are called to assess how we live the Stewardship of this ministry. How does the life of our parish reflect Pastoral Viability? It is appropriate for the whole parish community to be concerned about Christian formation and education; single, married and family life; charity; economic and social justice; matters of the common good-- locally and globally. All members of the parish express these concerns through prayer, the celebration of sacraments and coordinated activity.
