The logo for the diocesan centennial celebration was designed by Nellie Edwards, a member of Immaculate Conception parish in Max.
The circles depict the infinite love of God, his infinite love for us and the fact that he had no beginning and has no end.
The red is for the blood of Christ, shed as a ransom for all.
The blue is for our Blessed Mother, the Ark of the Convenant and the ultimate role model for all Christians.
The cross reminds us daily to take up our own cross to follow Christ to eternal peace and joy. It also stands for those who have gone before us, facing adversity, to Persevere in Faith in order to build the Kingdom of God here in our area. It is also representative of the many men and women religious who have embraced the the cross and accomplished much for our diocese.
The Eucharist is depicted by the chalice and the wheat: the source and summit of the Catholic faith - Jesus Christ who sustains and nourishes us for our journey to Heaven, just as it did for those who began Christ's work her in the Diocese of Bismarck 100 years ago.
The hands represent the fact that we are the Body of Christ. His hands to reach out to the lonely, the sick, everyone marginalized by Society. When I was thirsty, you gave me to drink. When I was hungry, you gave me to eat...
The starburst represents the contribution of the Native peoples, their humility and awe of all that God inspires us to do and to greater acceptance of the Creator's plan and purpose for our lives.
The Holy Spirit/Dove sanctifies us and guides us unto all truth. Christ said, I will not leave you orphans. I will send the Paraclete. Without him, we are sojourners without a compass.
The cross, made by Deacon Woodie Wolf of Cathedral parish, will travel to all 99 parishes in the diocese during the next two years. Each parish will keep the cross in its church for one week before moving on to the next parish.
