BIOGRAPHY
September 22, 1935: Born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Albert J. and Leona (Rau) Zipfel
1940-1949: Attended St. Michael Elementary School, St. Louis.
1949-1955: Attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary.
1955-1957: Attended Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis.
1957-1961: Completed seminary education at Catholic University, Washington, DC.
March 18, 1961: Ordained to the priesthood in St. Louis.
June 1961: Received Licentiate in Sacred Theology.
1963-1965: Completed Graduate Studies at St. Louis University.
1965: Received a Master of Arts degree in Education from St. Louis University.
1961-1989: Served as associate pastor, pastor, teacher and administrator in various schools and parishes in the St. Louis area.
June 29, 1989: Ordained an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Dec. 31, 1996: Appointed sixth Bishop of Bismarck.
Feb. 20, 1997: Installed as sixth Bishop of Bismarck.
