It is our great concern that every child in the Diocese of Bismarck be protected from abuse. For the past several years the Diocese of Bismarck has implemented a number of programs to help assure the safety of children. We are grateful for the efforts that you have made to assist us toward this goal. Although much has been done, still much more remains.
According to the Child Molestation Research and Prevention Institute, it has been estimated that at least two out of every ten girls and one out of every ten boys is sexually abused by the end of their 13th year. We need to do whatever we can to help protect our children from abuse in all its forms.
We have developed in conjunction with Red Flag Green Flag Resources, affiliated with the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, Fargo, North Dakota, a number of teaching points that we feel would be helpful in discussing this sensitive but important subject with your children.
These Safe Environment Teaching Points are not intended to be read verbatim to your children but used by you, the parents or guardians, as a means to create an awareness on the part of your children of their own safety. We believe that parents or guardians are best equipped to discuss this sensitive matter with your children and it is our hope to provide you with some general areas to be covered in your discussions.
